The panama hat: its history

Panama hats are hats made of vegetable fibers. Despite its name, it is not of Panamanian origin but Ecuadorian.

Moreover, contrary to popular belief, the Panama hat is not a form of hat. Indeed, it is a material composed of a hand woven of young palm shoots from Ecuador. Therefore, a trilby hat, a fedora hat or a floppy hat could very well be considered a panama hat!

It is Theodore Roosevelt who will contribute to popularize it by wearing it during his visit to the building sites of the Panama Canal in 1906. This hat then became a must-have accessory to wear without moderation on sunny days.
